SK girls track finishes 2nd at SPSL meet

The South Kitsap girls track team had a strong showing at Saturday’s SPSL meet at Sunset Chevy Stadium in Sumner. The Wolves finished just four behind league champion Curtis to take home a hard-earned second-place finish.

The Wolves were led by three individual league champions — Evelyn Collins-Winn, who took first place in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11 minutes, 7.38 seconds; Grace Degarimore, who took top honors in the discus with a throw of 114 feet, 10 inches; and Danae Hughes, who won the javelin with a toss of 136 feet, eight inches.

Degarimore also earned two more podiums, finishing second in the shot put and fourth in the javelin behind teammate Hughes.

Collins-Winn also earned herself a silver and a bronze with a second-place finish in the 1600-meter run with a 5:04.75 mile, and a third in the 800 meters.

Ella Hopper finished third in the 400-meter run with a time of 59.44 while Elizabeth Worden finished third in the shot put (33 feet, 11 inches) and Jamie Thoma took third in the long jump (16 feet, 2.25 inches).

The 4×400 relay of Savannah Kambich, Ella Hopper, Elise Hopper and Collins-Winn finished third with a time of 4:09.40. The 4×200 with Kambich, the Hopper sisters and Thoma took fourth (1:50.45).

On the boys side, Devin Easley had a strong day in the throwing events. He took second in the shot put (45 feet), third in the javelin (147 feet, one inch) and fourth in the discus (125 feet, five inches). Joren Rentie took second in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 7.5 inches.

The boys team finished ninth overall.
