John Oltman and Holden Capps were outstanding on the mound, helping the BlueJackets to a 5-2 victory over the Wenatchee AppleSox on July 22 at Gene Lobe Field.
The BlueJackets honed in early on the AppleSox, bringing in two on the board in the second inning. The hits from Caylen Clardy and Kyle Nobach led to a 3-1 lead, a lead Kitsap was able to hold onto for the remainder of the ball game.
Though both teams tied it up early in the first inning with hits by Wenatchee’s Evan Douglas and Kitsap’s Jake Scudder, the AppleSox struggled at the plate from that point foward.
The AppleSox looked to cut the deficit in the top of the eighth with an RBI from Keaton Smith that cut the BlueJackets lead to 3-2.
The BlueJackets came back and extended the lead with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, making it a 5-2 game that gave the AppleSox a quick turnaround and solidified the victory.
Oltman (3-0) was the winning pitcher. Zach Haggett (4-2) was caught with a loss.
The BlueJackets finished with five runs, eight hits and one error. The AppleSox left with two runs, four hits and two errors.
The series finale against Wenatchee takes place at 6:35 p.m. on July 23 at Gene Lobe Field at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds.
