Bucs take Oly League golf title | Girls golf

KINGSTON — The Kingston High School girls golf team won the Olympic League title May 7 after defeating the North Kitsap Vikings in a make-up match.

The Bucs shot 252 to the Vikes’ 257.

The Bucs finished the season with seven wins and one tie. The Vikes finished with seven wins and one loss.

Along with the title, the Bucs have four golfers with top averages in the league. Aimee Zehrung is averaged 46.9 — 3.3 above the league’s top golfer, Sally Fletcher of Klahowya. Emily Vernik is averaged 51.6. Dani Fox averaged 52. Kinda Smith averaged 53.3. Zehrung and Vernik earned All-League status as well.

For North Kitsap, Karin Muggli averaged 50. Maddy San Fellipo averaged 51.9. Anna Rees averaged 52.5. Muggli and San Fellipo earned All-League status.

Klahowya’s Sally Fletcher was the Olympic League MVP.

Kingston boys finished second in the league, 7-1, behind undefeated Port Angeles. North Kitsap boys finished 2-5.

Kingston’s Cole Codding-ton earned All-League status. Coddington’s average was 43.

The top five girls teams and nine boys teams from the West Central District travel to Gold Mountain Golf Club to compete in the Gold Mountain Tournament May 14. Seventeen girls and 33 boys will have the opportunity to advance to the State tournament May 21-22.
