KINGSTON — With their 40-7 win over the Port Angeles Roughriders Oct. 26, the Kingston Buccaneers secured the No. 2 seed into the playoffs.

The Bucs will play Washington High School Nov. 2 for a shot at the State championships. The losing team is out for the season.

With the No. 2 seed, the Bucs are granted a playoff home game. The team will (tentatively) play Washington at 7 p.m. at North Kitsap Stadium. The location of the game may change.

Kingston coach Todd Harder said the Bucs were looking “to take care of business” during the game against the Roughriders. The goal was to achieve 40 points to get the clock running down — via the mercy rule — and give second and third-string players some time on the field.

Linebacker Aaron Dickson also had a first for the Bucs this season.

The first Buccaneer defensive touchdown of the season happened when the Roughriders were facing third-and-long in their own territory. Following a sack and forced fumble by Kingston’s Tucker Burns, Dickson recovered and ran the ball in for an approximate 35-yard touchdown. The defensive play resulted in the touchdown (there have been special teams touchdowns, such as Mikole Hendricks’ punt block/ touchdown against North Kitsap).

“I’ve been waiting for that one,” Harder said.

Though the Bucs had a tied record with the North Kitsap Vikings this season (5-2 in league play), the win over the Vikings Oct. 19 gave them the tie-breaker for playoffs.
