The Buc Stops Here
When I heard that the Kingston Community News was looking for a student to write for the local paper, I volunteered right away. Ever since third grade I have loved books and writing, and have had a general fascination with words.
As I start my look at colleges and universities with the rest of my junior classmates, I’ve made sure to look at the English programs of the various schools that have repeatedly sent me those annoying, yet slightly exciting, brochures in the mail. There is something so exhilarating about this process: imagining our futures, wherever they will be. The fact that in a year we’ll all be leaving has become more and more prevalent to us as the school year goes by. Especially now, as so many of our senior friends receive their college acceptance letters and make their final decisions.
Lately, whenever I go on Facebook, it seems it is almost a guarantee I will see someone’s post on where they will be heading off to next year. I dare say, though, that their senioritis is becoming contagious to the rest of us. For those who aren’t familiar with this influenza of the school system, it is frequently found among upperclassmen and spreads rapidly as the school year goes on. Its common symptoms include daydreaming in class, a yearning for the end of school, a persistent restlessness … I think you can imagine the rest from here.
Luckily, I think most of us will survive until summer and while only the seniors may receive the cure, miraculously we all will find ourselves temporarily healed. For me, this includes a summer exchange program in Chile.
Even with senioritis waiting for me upon return, I look forward to sharing my experience and my time left as a Buccaneer with everyone in the Kingston community.
Go Bucs!
