The Buccaneers and Vikings will go head-to-head on the mat in the second annual Friday night wrestling meet.
The event starting at 6 p.m. for junior varsity and 7 p.m. for varsity, will be held on Jan. 14 at Kingston High School.
This will be the second year the two teams have come together for the special Friday night wrestling meet.
Both Joe Amick, NKs head coach, and Bobby Reece, KHS head coach, organized the event last year in an attempt to promote the two programs. Last year, the event was near capacity.
For wrestlers such as Jack Welker, a KHS heavyweight, facing NK at anytime is important.
“Anytime Kingston and North meet its important,” Welker said. “Especially for the bragging rights.”
In the past, Welker said NK has traditionally “stomped” the KHS teams and he is excited to face their rivals again next week.
The KHS team is physically coming together, too. Walker Larson, a wrestler in the 215-pound class, said conditioning has proven useful this season. On top of that, he said he feels the team’s strategy has developed well.
After the meet, check the North Kitsap Herald’s website for photos of the night’s action.
