TACOMA — Halfway through the state Class 2A, 3A and 4A track and field championships, a handful of Kitsap athletes are still in the mix.
North Kitsap’s Siara Byers snuck into the girls’ 3A 100-meter dash finals Friday morning with a qualifying time of 12.63 seconds. Byers and her Viking teammates will run in a 4×100-meter relay qualifying round Friday evening.
Kingston’s Ruby Roberts qualified for the Class 2A 1,600-meter finals Thursday and the 800-meter run Friday. Roberts will compete in both events’ finals Saturday.
“I was in a really fast heat, so I was just trying to stay with those girls, I guess,” Roberts said after the 800-meter run.
Roberts finished fourth in her heat, with a time of 2 minutes, 16.24 seconds.
Fellow Buccaneer Jaime Schultz qualified for the Class 2A 300-meter hurdles finals with a time of 48.15 seconds Friday. Schultz will also compete in the triple-jump finals Friday evening.
Elsewhere around the county, Central Kitsap’s Shane Moskowitz won the boys’ 4A 3,200-meter championship Thursday with a time of 8:59.53. Bainbridge’s Anna Kaminski took second overall in the girls’ 3A discus throw Thrusday with a distance of 122 feet, 10 inches.
Also from Bainbridge, the girls’ 4×400-meter relay team qualified Thursday for the finals with a time of 4:00.27.
In the girls’ 4A division, Central Kitsap’s 4×400-meter relay team qualified for the finals with a time of 3:58.85. One member of the Central Kitsap relay team — Shannon Moskowitz — also qualified for finals in the girls’ 4A 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.52.
From South Kitsap, Leon La Deaux qualified for the boys’ 4A 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.84 seconds. Fellow SK Wolf José Adriano took second in the mixed 800-meter wheelchair race with a time of 2:04.97.
