VISION 2050 draft up for public review

The Puget Sound Regional Council recently released their VISION 2050 draft for public review, and will be holding a workshop and open house Aug. 15 in Port Orchard.

“By 2050, the central Puget Sound region will be home to nearly 6 million people — a 40 percent jump from today,” states a press release from Kitsap County. “The Puget Sound Regional Council’s VISION 2050 is the guide for how this growth can support thriving communities, a strong economy, and healthy environment.”

The facilitated workshop will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Kitsap County Commissioners Chambers, followed by the drop-in open house from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The workshop will include a brief overview of VISION 2050, with small, facilitated group discussions for key policy areas. The open house will include PSRC staff giving a presentation about the draft, followed by questions from the community.

The VISION 2050 draft plan calls out for policy and action including:

• Increasing housing choices and affordability

• Providing opportunities for all

• A strong economy and balanced job growth throughout the region

• Significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions

• Transportation that connects centers and improves mobility

• Growth focused in centers and near fast and frequent transit

• Restoring the health of Puget Sound

• Protecting a network of open space
