PORT ORCHARD — A Kitsap Airporter van traveling westbound on Highway 16 near the Mullenix exit Monday collided with a tree after leaving the road, killing the driver.

James Kingston of Port Orchard, 75, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Washington State Patrol said.

After colliding with a tree, the van caught fire. South Kitsap Fire and Rescue attended to the blaze and extinguished it.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Chelsea Hodgson said the accident happened at 10:45 a.m. Lanes leading westbound on Highway 16 were blocked between the Mullenix and Burley-Olalla road exits. Approximately two hours after the accident, the left lane heading westbound was reopened.

Hodgson said troopers were at the scene investigating the accident to see what caused Kingston to leave the road.
