PORT ORCHARD — Kitsap County residents who were affected by the recent spate of hot weather are reminded there are public places where they can find relief from the temperatures.

While meteorologists say 90-plus-degree temperatures are a thing of the past for the rest of this summer, they expect warm weather to continue through this month with the thermometers reaching the mid-80s on occasion.

With that in mind, Kitsap Public Health District officials say there are good places for those who need to get out of the heat, including all county regional libraries during business hours. Many city and county parks offer shade, water fountains and restrooms while open dawn through dusk.

Other locations offer respite from the heat in Bremerton, Kingston and Silverdale. Those locations are:

Bremerton

The Salvation Army, 832 6th St. (outside in the shaded overhang area by the back doors off the alley, 24 hours).

Kitsap Rescue Mission, 810 6th St. (inside from 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9-10:30 a.m. Sunday).

St. Vincent De Paul, 1137 Callow Ave. (check in at the food bank and ask for a bottle of water, 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday).

Kingston

Village Green, 26159 Dulay Rd. NE (during normal business hours).

Silverdale

Kitsap Mall, 10315 Silverdale Way NW (inside air conditioning and water fountains, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day).
