Three state swim titles for North Kitsap’s Beers

FEDERAL WAY – Freshman Eleanor Beers of North Kitsap won state titles in three events at the 2016 2A Girls State Swim Meet, Nov. 11-12 at the King County Aquatic Center.

Beers finished first in the state 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.36, carving almost a half-second off her prelim time.

Four events later, Beers finished the 100-yard freestyle in 50.98, besting her prelim time of 51.92 and touching the wall almost two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Beers and teammates Isabel Hendryx, Dannica Hennings and Izy Iral finished the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:39.84 — just missing the state title by .39 second to Liberty. Then, in the final event of the day, the foursome won the state 400-yard freestyle relay title with a time of 3:41.54, more than 3 seconds faster than their prelim time.

Hendryx also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke, 59.58.; and sixth in the 200-yard freestyle, 1:59.90.

In the 500-yard free, sophomore Claudia Velie of Kingston finished fifth with a time of 5:29.22, almost 4 seconds faster than her prelim time; and seventh in the 200-yard IM, with a time of 2:14.90.

Other finishes: Iral finished 12th in the 100-yard butterfly, 1:03.83; and 14th in the 50-yard freestyle, 26.40.

Hennings and Emma Hart, Anna Jones and Claire Stone finished 14th in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:06.06.
