POULSBO — Drivers rolling through Poulsbo saw a curious sight Dec. 11 when police pulled over a truck with their guns drawn.

Poulsbo police responding to a report of a stolen vehicle pulled over the green Ford Ranger truck at Highway 305 and Bond Road at 2:30 p.m. Police had tailed the truck from the nearby Walmart before pulling it over.

“It started at the Walmart parking lot when an uninvolved person saw a car drop off two guys who then broke through the back window of that truck and drove off,” Poulsbo Police Chief Alan Townsend said.

Police initially treated the incident as a vehicle theft. But the driver and passenger were cooperative with police, and it was quickly established that the situation was the result of a misunderstanding.

“After the scene was secured, it was determined they had permission to take the truck and the only way into it was through that back window,” Townsend said.

“Apparently the locks don’t work, so the truck was locked, and the skinny guy has to climb through the back window,” he added. “The doors actually open though (from the inside).”
