Diamond Dusters 97 Win Second Straight Championship

Published 2:19 pm Thursday, July 14, 2011

The Diamond Dusters 97, coached by Tom Holliday, John Gutierrez and Kellie Greenhill, won the Amateur Softball Association’s Metro Championship in south Seattle July 2-3.

This is the second tournament in a row that the 14U squad has won undefeated, after sweeping the state National Softball Association Championship in the Tri-Cities three weeks ago.

The championship game of the tournament created a unique sense of rivalry, as the Diamond Dusters 97 squad took on the other 14U team in the organization, Diamond Dusters Black.

This 7-5 victory marks the third time the two Diamond Dusters teams have faced one another in the past three weeks. It also marks the third time the Diamond Dusters 97 has come out on top.

Diamond Dusters 97 is the first team in the organization to hold both National Softball Organization and Amateur Softball Organization titles since 2001.

The Diamond Dusters 97 will play in two more tournaments this summer — The Triple Crown Sports World Championships in Park City, Utah and the Amateur Softball Association Western Nationals in Spokane.
