Webster breaks West Sound rushing record, Trojans eliminated

Despite the No. 16 seed Olympic Trojans (9-2) losing their opening state game against No. 1 seed Archbishop Murphy 45-13 Nov. 15, senior running back Chace Webster broke the West Sound record for most rushing yards in a season with 2,436 yards.

Webster scored an 80-yard touchdown on the Trojans’ final offensive play of the game late in the fourth quarter to break the record. The record was formerly held by South Kitsap running back Ryan Cole, who had 2,401 yards in 2001.

The Trojans tallied a three-and-out on their first drive of the game, with Webster and quarterback Toby Moore unable to get the offense going early on.

Nonetheless, Olympic recovered a fumble on Archbishop Murphy’s first drive, providing an early shift in momentum for the Trojans. The Olympic offense was able to capitalize with Webster rattling off a 40-yard run for a touchdown, giving them an early 6-0 lead after a missed extra point.

However, the Wildcats scored on the first play of their next drive and converted the extra point, giving them a one-point lead at 7-6 with 7:05 remaining in the first quarter.

The momentum Olympic found early on quickly faded with Webster fumbling on the next drive and the Wildcats producing another quick score, giving them a 14-6 lead.

The Trojans fumbled again on their next drive, but were able to recover it. Nonetheless, their drive stalled out with less than two minutes remaining in the first.

The Wildcats seemingly scored again on a long touchdown pass at the beginning of the second quarter, but the touchdown was called off due to a holding call. Olympic was able to stop Archbishop Murphy and force their first punt of the game.

But the next Olympic ended in a punt as well, and the Wildcats were able to score again on a long punt return, giving them a 21-6 lead with 6:12 remaining in the half.

The second half spelled more of the same for the Trojans, and the game quickly became out of hand.
