Sports updates: North Kitsap baseball, fastpitch win

Vikings clinch league title

The North Kitsap baseball team captured at least a share of the Olympic League title Friday as they pounded Bremerton, 10-0, in five innings.

North’s Alex Smith threw eight strikeouts in four innings to get the victory.

“We’ve come a long way from the beginning of the season,” said NK head coach Jeff Weible, who was doused with a water bucket by his players after the win.

“The teams that are going to go far are the teams that get along together and play for each other and pull for each other. And that’s one thing we’ve done a lot better job at the last two-thirds of the season,” Weible added.

The winning run came in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Daniel Jewett knocked a bloop into shallow center to drive the tenth run home from third.

Jewett echoed his coach’s sentiments on team cohesiveness after the game.

“We’re always there for each other,” Jewett said of his teammates. “We pick each other up every day.”

The Vikings head into the playoffs Wednesday.
