Olympic College cross-country team struggles at invitational in Oregon
The Olympic College women’s cross-country team finished last among 14 teams and the men placed 16th of 17 at the Mike Hodges Invitational Saturday at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Ore.
Rachel Feiring took 79th place with a time of 21 minutes, 14 seconds on the 5-kilometer course, Olympic’s top female finisher.
Jessica Duckworth finished 86th in 21:39, Angela Hanners placed 100th in 23:07 and Taylor Person took 102nd in 23:15.
The men’s team was led by Andrew Crain, who finished 74th in 22:12 in the 4-mile race.
Josh Caldwell placed 118th in 23:20, while Andrew Crock took 131st in 23:48 and Devon Wright finished 138th in 24:01.
Olympic will compete in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges Northern Region meet Oct. 30 in Everett.
The final meet of the season is the conference championships, to be held Nov. 13 at Clackamas Community College.

Volleyball teams busy as regular season winds down
Tacoma Baptist High School defeated the Crosspoint Academy volleyball team 3-1 (26-24, 12-25, 25-12, 25-22) in SeaTac League action Tuesday.
Meaghan Houser led Crosspoint with 13 kills, 36 digs, three assists, two blocks and three aces.
Caitlin Maguire added three aces, five kills and 19 digs, while Andie Avery notched two kills, an ace and eight digs.
The Warriors also dropped a match at home Monday against Seattle Lutheran High School, 3-1 (25-27, 25-14, 22-25, 18-25).
Houser had nine kills, four aces, four blocks, three assists and 28 digs.
Central Kitsap High School defeated Mount Tahoma High School 3-0 (25-4 25-9 25-11) in Narrows League play on the road Monday.
Alexis Wesley finished with 10 kills, eight digs and two blocks to lead the Cougars (15-7 overall, 3-2 league). Tricia Vantino added 16 assists and four aces.
Olympic High School, meanwhile, defeated North Mason High School 3-1 (25-8, 25-13, 28-30, 25-14) at home Tuesday.
Jenna Tippets had 31 assists, Kira Varady finished with eight digs and Shannon Jackson registered 16 kills to pace the Trojans (9-4, 4-2), who host Kingston High School at 6:15 p.m. Oct. 26.
Scores were not reported from Bremerton High School or Klahowya Secondary School Bremerton hosts North Mason at 6:15 p.m. Oct. 26. Klahowya hosts Sequim at 6:15 p.m. Oct. 26.
Tomahawks continue to struggle on the rink
The Puget Sound Tomahawks of the Northern Pacific Hockey League held a 1-8 record as of Wednesday after losing consecutive games last week by a combined score of 20-4.
The Southern Oregon Spartans defeated Puget Sound 8-1 and 9-1 Oct. 14 and 15, while the Eugene Generals earned a 3-2 victory Oct. 16.
The team visits Eugene at 7:35 p.m. Friday and the River City (Ore.) Jaguars at 6:40 p.m. Saturday and 12:55 p.m. Sunday.
The next home game is Oct. 28.
Boys rec-league hoops registration underway
Bremerton Parks and Recreation is accepting team and individual registrations for a boys basketball league open to players in grades 8 to 12.
The season begins Dec. 11, running through the first week of March.
Teams will play eight games in addition to a postseason tournament.
The registration deadline is Nov. 24, with a cost of $268 per team or $45 for individuals hoping to be placed on a squad.
