NK boys clinch league
The North Kitsap boys basketball team beat Sequim 64-38 Wednesday to at least share the top spot in the Olympic League.
The Vikings need to win at North Mason Tuesday in order to hold the title by themselves. If they lose, North will share the championship with North Mason and/or Port Townsend.
The Vikings started Wednesday’s game down 15-11 after the first quarter, but went on an 18-1 run in the second and continued the strong pace all night. Kyle Erickson and Brandon Huggins led North with 16 points each, and Taylor Hoffer put in 12.
This is the first time since 1992 that the Vikings have clinched at least a portion of the league championship.
NK girls crush Sequim
Wednesday was a good night for the North Kitsap girls basketball team as well, as they beat Sequim 60-35 to move to 11-4 in league play.
The game was a rout from the get-go, as the Vikings went up 31-7 in the first quarter.
Delanee Nilles scored a triple-double, racking up 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals. Darcey Hughes put up a double-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds, six blocks and five steals.
The girls host North Mason Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Bucs girls earn No. 2 spot
The Kingston High School girls basketball team beat Olympic 58-40 Wednesday to improve to 11-3 in the Olympic League.
Kingston’s Arissan Ugles put up 19 points, while Sophia Baetz contributed 13.
The Bucs host Klahowya tonight, game starts at 7 p.m.
Bucs boys fall to Oly
The Kingston boys basketball team is still looking for that elusive second win, as they lost to Olympic 52-38 Wednesday.
The Bucs kept it close in the first half, but the Trojans outscored them 20-5 in the third quarter to put the game away.
Ry Ravenholt led Kingston with 10 points, and Larry Dixon had 18 for Olympic.
NK swims to districts
North Kitsap swimmers Josh Despard and Tyler Rencher will compete today and Saturday at the West Central District III swim meet at Hazen High School in Renton.
Rencher will participate individually in the 100-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle, and as part of a team in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays.
Despard will compete as an individual in the 50-yard freestyle and as a relay member for the 200-yard medley and the 200- and 400-yard freestyle races.
Other NK swimmers will make up the remainder of the relay teams.
District meet winners will move on to the state competition, Feb. 19-21 at the King County Aquatic Center.
PMS girls win opener
The Poulsbo Middle School girls basketball team won its season opener Monday, 44-29 against Hawkins Middle School.
Payton Harvey and Shelby Bray led the Panthers with six points each, and 10 of the team’s 13 players got on the board.
Poulsbo played at Kingston Middle School Thursday, but results were not available at press time.
KMS girls earn a win
The Kingston Middle School girls basketball team traveled to Vashon Monday to defeat the McMurray Middle School Mustangs, 55-15.
Samantha Salas led the defending West Sound League champion Cavaliers with 19 points, and Amanda Carper snagged eight rebounds on the night.
Kingston hosted rival Poulsbo Middle School Thursday, but results were not available at press time.
