The Vikes have a 7-3 record, beating Bremerton, Olympic, and Kingston twice, and Port Townsend once. North has lost to Sequim, Port Angeles and Klahowya.
On Wednesday at its home courts the Vikes added its second win against Bremerton as it beat the Trojans, 6-1.

Tough times
for Bucs tennis
On Tuesday the Bucs hosted the Sequim Wolves to a make-up game and a tough Sequim team won, 6-1.

Viking cross country claims top places
On Wednesday the Vikes traveled to NAD Park in Bremerton to race against Bremerton and Port Angeles. The course was 2.4 miles of forest trails, and both boys and girls varsity teams won.
Boy’s varsity results: first, Tyler Spear, 13 minutes and 44 seconds; second, Tabor Reedy, 13:44; third, Joel Brose, 13:45; fourth, Lars Blazina, 13:48; and sixth, James Dexter, 14:13.
Girl’s varsity results: first, Annelise Weinmann, 15:55; second, Hilary Leonard, 16:05; third, Elizabeth Staker, 16:25; fifth, Shawna Williams, 16:30; and sixth, Katie Tertocha, 16:32.
On Wednesday the Vikings travels to Klahowya to compete against Port Townsend and the Eagles.
Viking volleyball loses one,
wins one
On Tuesday the Vikes traveled to North Mason and lost in four, 25-22 (North won) 25-18, 25-15, 25-20.
North Mason was a very strong team with a lot of height and talent to go with it, head coach Tim French wrote in an e-mail.
“While we served well, we didn’t handle serve receive the way we needed to in this match,” French wrote. “We needed to put all aspects of our game together and we didn’t quite do that. As always, I was proud of the fight we put up.”
As a team the Vikes served more than 97 percent, nailing 69/71
Stats: Sarah Baugh, 14 kills, 20 assists and seven digs; Taylor Ottomano, 15 kills; Lindsay Kocker, 13 digs; Jordan Denning, 14 assists; Bryana Bohl three aces; and Katie Smeland four aces.
On Thursday the Vikes hosted Klahowya and won in three, 25-10, 25-6, 25-10
Stats: Baugh, 10 kills, nine assists, seven aces; Ottomano, six kills and four aces; and Denning 10 assists.
The Vikings, 14-4 overall and 5-2 in league, travel to Port Townsend on Tuesday.
Buccaneer volleyball splits the week
On Tuesday the Bucs hosted Shelton and lost in three, 25-23, 25-13, 25-13.
Rachel Bishop had seven kills and nine digs.
On Thursday the Bucs traveled to Bremerton and won in five, 27-25 khs, 25-19 bhs, 25-19 bhs, 27-25 khs, 15-13 khs.
“It was a tough game and my girls played exceptionally well,” wrote head coach Lacey Menne in an e-mail. “I was so impressed with my girls during this match. It is exactly what I was waiting to see them do. I am so proud.”
Jordan Tapp had her best game of the season with 104 sets and only 12 errors, she also attacked the ball 26 times and had five, kills and 22 digs. Bishop, 17 attacks 13 kills, 18 digs; Rachel Daniels, eight attacks, and 32 digs; Anna Finlon, 25 attacks, six kills and 26 digs; Lindsey Gard, 18 attacks, 11 kills and 16 digs.
Kingston swimming closing the gap
On Thursday the Bucs hosted Port Townsend and lost, but narrowed the score margin, 88-63. It was the Bucs last home meet.
Kaylie Manix won the 200-free in, 2:44.71 and the 500-free in 7:30.06; Kingston’s Fisher, MacKenzie, Kelleigh, Avila, won the 200-free relay in 2:08.39; and Brittany MacKenzie won the 100-breast stroke in 1:29.32.
The Bucs had three district qualifications on Thursday: Karly Crawford in the 50-free, 31.89; MacKenzie in the 100-free, 1:11.20; and MacKenzie in the 100-breast, 1:29.58.
Vikings win fifth meet in a row
On Thursday the Vikes hosted Port Townsend and won, 115-53. It was the Vikes last home meet, and North posted 21 best times, however, no school records were broken.

NKHS homecoming will kick off with the resurrection of tradition
On Monday, as part of the Vikings homecoming celebrations, the junior girls will take on the senior girls in powderpuff football action. This will mark the first time the competition has occurred in nearly five years. The puff starts at 7 p.m. at the North Kitsap Stadium. Admission is $2 and all proceeds go to the senior fund.
NK Athletic Boosters are throwing a Viking pre-game bash
Today, beginning at 6 p.m., the NK Athletic Boosters will host a burger bash before the Vikings versus Capital game, which is played at the North Kitsap Stadium, kickoff at 7 p.m. The bash includes a freshly-grilled quarter-pound burger, with or without grilled onions and cheese, a variety of condiments, and choice of chips and a drink. Booster members receive a discount, paying $4, while non-booster members pay $5. A new supply of a “I am a Viking” hoody sweatshirts have also arrived, and T-shirts will be available.
Kitsap youth lacrosse offers fall clinics
The third annual fall youth lacrosse clinic will be two clinics this year, at locations in South Kitsap and North Kitsap, and are open to boys and girls in grades three through eight. This Sunday the clinic will be at Marcus Whitman Junior High School, 1887 Madrona Dr SE, Port Orchard. Next Sunday Oct. 19, the clinic will be at Poulsbo Middle School, 2003 NE Hostmark St, Poulsbo. The clinics will be from 1-4 p.m., cost $10.

Diamond Dusters U12 fastpitch interest meeting
The Diamond Dusters will hold an “Interest Meeting” opened to parents and players for a U12 tournament team. The meeting will be held on Thursday Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. at Central Kitsap Junior High in the commons.The meeting will explain the mission of the Diamond Dusters Fastpitch Organization in developing the skills of young athletes and in offering the highest level of fastpitch competition.
