Kingston girls trounce Sequim

The Buccaneers handed Sequim its fifteenth straight loss this season, defeating the Wolves 87-34 in a Friday night romp.

Kingston’s Sophia Baetz put up 22 points, and remains atop the league for scoring.

Arissan Ugles pulled down nine rebounds, which led the team and complemented her 17 points.

Several other Bucs are ranked high in various stat categories this season.

Megan Ramey, Laura Wicklein and Elle Sander were also in double digits Friday, scoring 13, 12 and 11, respectively.

The number two Bucs host third place North Kitsap Tuesday in a North End rivalry matchup.

Girls fastpitch registration

The Kitsap Peninsula Youth Fastpitch Council is taking registrations for the upcoming fastpitch season.

Girls aged five to 16 are eligible to play. The boundaries of each association are determined by the high school district in which a player resides.

Cheerleading enrollment

Infiniti Cheer Force All Star Cheerleading is enrolling every Wednesday and Sunday through Feb. 25.

Guys and girls aged 14-18 are invited to sign up at Zero Gravity Athletics in Poulsbo from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. Experience is desired but not required.

Annual basketball tournament

North American Youth Sports still has openings for its annual spring basketball tournament in Auburn.

The contest will be held at Auburn High School on March 20-21, and is open to boys and girls in grades five through 12.

Registration is $100 per team, and guarantees at least two games. Entry deadline is Feb. 27.

High school sailing teams meet

The North Kitsap High School and Kingston High sailing teams will hold meetings for any interested students next week.

The NKHS group meets Feb. 4 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the school’s brand new commons area.

The KHS team will meet Feb. 5 in that school’s commons from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Both teams are coed, and no prior sailing experience is required to join.

Lacrosse registration available

Boys in 5th-8th grades interested in playing lacrosse are encouraged to sign up with the Kitsap Youth Lacrosse Association.

The KYLA is taking registrations through Feb. 7, and practices will begin Feb. 10 at Seabeck Elementary.

Cost is $125 for the season, plus a $5 KYLA membership fee.
