North Kitsap Volleyball wins
season opener
On Sept. 8 NK defeated South Kitsap at South in three sets, 25-20, 25-20, 25-16.
Stats: Sarah Baugh, four aces, six kills, six assists and three blocks; Taylor Ottomano, five kills; Lindsay Kocker, six digs; Claire Torstenbo, four blocks; and Jordan Denning, seven assists.
“A great way to start the season,” wrote head coach Tim French in an e-mail. “We learned a lot about what we should be working on and also came away with a nice win.”
Buccaneer soccer splits outcomes in first week of play
On Monday the Bucs lost its season opener to non-league opponent Kings, 5-2 at a game played on Buccaneer Field. Head coach Craig Smith said Kings dominated the counter attack and broke down Kingston’s defense, as Kings is more patient and experienced.
Kingston’s Meghan Antoni scored the Bucs’ first goal off an assist by Rachel Tapp. Tapp scored the second goal on a free kick in the second half.
On Tuesday the Bucs traveled to Port Angeles for another non-league game and this time came away with the win, 3-1.
With in the first three minutes of play Renee Henderson scored a goal off an assist from Kyla Jorgensen; at minute 25 Antoni nailed a penalty kick and at minute 45 Jorgensen scored the third goal, assisted by Ashley Collins.
The Bucs posted 20 shots on goal to PA’s five, and Smith said the team looked a lot better in its second game out.
On Tuesday the Bucs travel to Port Townsend.
Buccaneers capture first tennis match
of the season
On Wednesday Kingston traveled to Port Townsend to play a joint PT and Chimicum High team, and the Bucs won 5-2.
No. 1 singles, Kingston’s Jerol Bird defeated Perry Pearsall 6-2, 6-1; No. 2 singles, PT’s Benny Wyeck defeated Nick Anderson, 6-4, 6-3; No. 3 singles, Kingston’s Sam Shoemaker defeated Kobi Albright 6-3, 6-3; No. 1 doubles, PT’s Carlo Bulleson, Ian Norris defeated Austin Dennis, Cameron Groh 6-2, 6-0; No. 2 doubles, Kingston’s Loren Klemesrud, Cody Combs defeated Spencer Albright, Kurt Macgerte, 6-2, 6-0; No. 3 doubles, Kingston’s Chris Blesie, Morgan McCalister defeated Todd Maegerk, Dylan Holbrook, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5; and No. 4 doubles, Kingston’s Brady Sundquist, Erik Reichert defeated Montag Grace, Luke Coppenrath 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.
On Friday the Bucs traveled to North Mason. Results of the game weren’t available prior to press time. On Monday the Bucs travel to Sequim and travel to North Kitsap on Tuesday, match starts at 3:10 p.m.
Kingston swimming tops Klahowya
On Thursday afternoon at the North Kitsap community pool the Bucs won its first ever meet as a Kingston-only team, defeating Klahowya, 68-58.

The Bucs compete on Thursday against North Kitsap at 3 p.m. at the NK Community pool.
It’s a tie
On Thursday the Vikings girls soccer team opened its season with tie, 2-2, during an away game against Gig Harbor.
Siara Byers scored the Vikes first goal at minute 12 off an assist from Delanee Nilles; Nilles scored the Vikes second goal at minute 32 on an assist from Alyssa Walker.
Nk posted 11 shots on goal to Gig’s 17.
The Vikings play Central Kitsap today at home at 1:45 p.m.
