KHS girls basketball cleans up in opening week of play

On Dec. 2 the Buccaneers girls basketball team hosted River Ridge and won 57-40. It was sweet redemption for the Bucs, as the 2006-07 2A state champions defeated the Bucs at last year’s state tournament 64-31.

On Friday the Bucs hosted Port Townsend and won 52-37.

On Tuesday The Bucs traveled to Klahowya, results of the game weren’t available at press time.

On Friday the Bucs are off to Port Angeles.

NK girls basketball stomps Olympic

On Friday the Vikings hosted Olympic and won 64-25. North scored 23 points in the first quarter, 14 in the second, 12 in the third and 15 in the fourth.

Stats: Delanee Nilles, 16 points, 10 rebounds and six steals; Siara Byers, nine points; Darcey Hughes, 10 rebounds; and Courtney Coleman, five steals.

On Friday the Vikings travel to Bremerton.

KHS boys basketball takes hard loss

On Friday the Bucs traveled to state title contenders Port Townsend and lost 68-22. Head coach Tim Olson wrote in an e-mail the Bucs weren’t prepared to match the Redskins’ intensity.

Stats: Tucker Bowman, four rebounds; Wue Koo, six points and two rebounds; Aaron Lawrence, six points, three rebounds and one assist; George Hill two points, three rebounds and two assists and Ry Ravenholt, eight points.

On Tuesday the Bucs hosted Klahowya. Results of the game weren’t available at press time.

On Friday the Bucs host Port Angeles, varsity starts at 7 p.m.

It’s a strong showing at invitational for Viking wrestling

Over the weekend the Vikings varsity wrestling team traveled to the 16 team Chief Sealth Invitational and the Vikes took third place overall.

The Vikings also won the team sportsmanship award and had five place winners. Donny Stamaris at 130 won his weight division, Justin Swansboro at 152 took second, Michael Coulter at 140, Rex Olson at 152 and Allan Dunlap at 189 all took third.

The Vikes don’t compete again until the 18th when they travel to Olympic.
