Streak ends for NK tennis

On Friday the Vikes traveled to the courts of the Sequim Wolves and were toppled 5-2.

Today the Vikes travel to North Mason and on Friday return home to host Klahowya, match starts at 4 p.m.

Vikings lose by one

On Friday the Vikes hosted Timberline and lost a heartbreaker, 29-28.

North scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and Timberline scored a field goal. Both teams scored a touchdown apiece in the second and third quarters. In the fourth Timberline added 12 points while the Vikes’ scoring dried up. With four seconds left on the clock the Vikes elected to go for the game-winning field goal, but the kick was barely wide and Timberline went home with the victory by one.

Viking stats: 19 first downs, 256 rushing yards and 95 passing yards. Senior running-back Taylor Chisholm had eight carriers for 88 yards and scored the Vikes first touch down in the first quarter on a 49-yard run. Senior running-back Brad DeShano had 32 carries for 152 yards and scored the Vikes’ second touchdown in the first quarter on a 10-yard run, the third touchdown in the second quarter on a three-yard run and the fourth touchdown in third quarter also on a three-yard run. Senior Zach Sampson scored the extra points. Senior quarterback Kevin Stringer completed eight of 14 passes for 95 yards.

On Friday the Vikings travel to Yelm. The Vikes don’t return home until Saturday Oct. 11.

Bucs football

tumbles to Bainbridge

On Saturday the Bucs hosted the Spartans at the North Kitsap Stadium, losing 42-17.

After the first quarter the Bucs were down 28-3, however, for the remaining three quarters both teams went 14 and 14.

“Our kids didn’t start well, but they finished well,” said head coach Dan Novick.

He said a lot of assignment and defense technique errors were made, which is what both coaches and team will be focusing on in practices.

Stats: Senior Chance Pruiett made a 30-yard field goal in the first quarter and caught one pass for 12 yards. Senior quarterback Paul Bagala ran in a touch down from one yard out in the second quarter. Bagala carried the ball eight times for 40 yards and completed four of 15 passes for 56 yards with zero interceptions. Senior running-back Travis Schriner ran in a touch down from two yards out in the fourth quarter. Schriner had 36 carries for 232 rushing yards. Junior running-back Daniel Orr had five carriers for 17 yards, junior running-back Matthew Wright had four carries for 22 yards and two receptions for 18 yards, and senior tight-end Ian Brown had two receptions for 18 yards.

On Friday the Bucs travel to Eatonville.

Buccaneer cross country finishes strong again

On Saturday the Bucs traveled to Port Angeles for the 21-school Salt Creek Invite and once again ran their way some fast finishes.

We had a great day with a lot of good performances,” wrote head coach Roger Coffman in an e-mail.

Today the Bucs are off to Port Townsend to compete against PT and Port Angeles. On Saturday the Bucs travel to the Tomahawk Invite at Marysville.

On Saturday the Vikes traveled to Port Angeles to compete in the 21-school Salt Creek Invite.

Today the Vikings host their first and only home run of the season against Olympic and North Mason. Race starts at 3:30 p.m. at Buck Lake in Hansville.

Kingston’s brand new PeeWee Football team wins first-ever game

On Saturday the PeeWee players of Kingston beat Warren of Bremerton 22-6.

“The boys played veery hard and with 20 first-year players we were able to pick up the win,” wrote assistant coach Scott Morgan in an e-mail.
