Former Central Kitsap girls hoops standout Dacotah Ettl had her best game as an Olympic College Ranger on Wednesday, pouring in a career-high 33 to help OC down Edmonds (0-10) 77-49 in the North Division opener for both Northwest Athletic Association of Community College competitors at OC’s Bremer Student Center.

And that was with just six players.

Ettl, a freshman at OC who a year ago helped CK advance to state, scored 17 points in the first half as the Rangers (4-7 overall) started the game on a 15-1 run en route to a 37-22 advantage at the half. And while she scored a career high, she also led the Rangers with six assists.

Fellow CK grad Ariel McDermott added 12 points, five assists and three steals while former Bremerton Knight Patricia Lewis scored 11 points with 12 boards.

Dorothy Wood, a freshman out of Tacoma’s Lincoln High School, also scored 11 and pulled down eight rebounds. Whitney Pearson, a sophomore out of North Kitsap, scored just three points, but had 10 boards.

The Rangers’ second-consecutive victory came in their return to the court from winter break.

The team was also shorthanded at six players, playing without Bremerton alum Christina Lawrence and South Kitsap grad Megan Gilbert.

OC will try to extend its streak with a road game today at Whatcom Community College (3-7) in Bellingham.

Men’s Basketball

Also shorthanded, the Ranger men (3-7 overall) tallied off their second-straight win, besting Edmonds (3-8) 87-76 at the Bremer Center in what also was the North Division opener for both.

This time it was Justin Artis, a freshman out of Foss High School in Tacoma, leading the charge with 21 points as the Rangers rallied from a five-point halftime deficit. Artis also had eight boards for the Ragners, who played with just seven players.

Bremerton’s Patrick Lewis, Patricia’s brother, had 20 points to go with seven rebounds.

Another former CK Cougar also stood out as Will Perry, a freshman at OC, scored just nine points but grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds.

At one point, the Rangers led 74-59 in the second half before Edmonds refused to quit, narrowing the gap in a game that saw 13 lead changes and five ties.

North Kitsap graduate Dietrich Rios, also a freshman, was one of the many Rangers absent from the contest.

The Ranger men also will go for three straight tonight in Bellingham as they prepare to battle Whatcom (9-4) in the nightcap.
