North Kitsap Fastpitch | Spring Sports Preview

North Kitsap Fastpitch

Head coach: Jamie Smaaladen

2018 record: 16-10 (8-4)

Key players: Lamara Villiard, sr., catcher; Sarah Smith, sr., pitcher; Mackenzie Wagner, sr., second base/third base/pitcher; Alicia Goetz, sr., second base/outfield; Iyreland Lawson, sr., shortstop.

Outlook: The Vikings made it back to the state tournament for the first time in over a decade in 2018 and bring back every single starter this year. Pitching will remain a stregnth with Smith and Wagner returning as the top two pitchers. Smith, the team’s ace, struck out 101 hitters in 105 innings last season. She should have plenty of offense backing her up as well; Villiard hit .477 last year with nine doubles and 28 RBI, Goetz hit .443 and Wagner batted .385. Add it all up, and the talent is there to return to the state tournament and challenge for a league championship.

Schedule: March 18, 4:15 p.m., Shelton | March 20, 4:15 p.m., Bremerton | March 21, 4:15 p.m., at Kingston | March 23, 11:15 a.m., Montesano (at Auburn Riverside) | March 23, 3:30 p.m., Elma (at Auburn Riverside) | March 27, 4:15 p.m., at Olympic | March 28, 4:15 p.m., Chimacum | April 10, 4:15 p.m., North Mason | April 12, 4:15 p.m., at Port Angeles | April 15, 4:15 p.m., at Sequim | April 17, 4:15 p.m., at Bremerton | April 18, 4:15 p.m., Kingston | April 22, 4:15 p.m., Olympic | April 26, 4:15 p.m., at North Mason | April 29, 4:15 p.m., Port Angeles | May 1, 4:15 p.m., Sequim | May 3, 4 p.m., at Central Kitsap | May 9, 4:15 p.m., at Chimacum.
