Former Harrison hospital security guard faces child rape charges

Kitsap County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 51-year-old man Wednesday who police say traded sex with underage psychiatric patients at Harrison hospital for alcohol, drugs and other benefits.

Dennis S. Mallillin, a former security guard at Harrison Medical Center, was charged with five felony counts including three counts of the rape of a child between the ages of 14-16. A criminal complaint filed Tuesday alleges Mallillin engaged in sexual conduct with two teenagers in the foster care system who had been treated at Harrison hospital for suicidal tendencies.

Mallillin also faces two counts of the commercial sexual abuse of a minor after police say he provided things of value in exchange for sexual acts.

The teenagers stayed at Mallillin’s home after they ran away from their foster home, police said. The complaint alleges that Mallillin asked them to engage in sex acts with each other, and engaged in sexual conduct himself with at least one of the teenagers.

CHI Franciscan Vice President Cary Evans said in a statement that action against Mallillin, a security officer with the healthcare organization, was “immediate” upon the incident coming to light.

“The safety of our patients is our highest priority,” Evans said in a statement. “We took immediate action to notify the police and place the employee on unpaid leave.”

“This is the worst abuse of power and trust one can imagine,” Evans continued. “We are fully cooperating with law enforcement.”

Mallillin was being held on $350,000 bail Thursday. He was scheduled for arraignment in Kitsap County Superior Court at 3:00 p.m.
