With the momentum of a four-game win streak and a player who’s posted double-doubles every game since the new year, the King’s West girl’s basketball team edged Tacoma Baptist 47-46 Tuesday to secure a No. 2 seed for the Class 2B Sea-Tac League tournament.

Sophomore Breyenne Mosey scored 26 points and hauled in a career-best 28 rebounds as the Lady Warriors extended their win streak to five, improving to 11-6 overall and 8-3 in league play.

“She was phenomenal. They tried to basically front her, sometimes double- and triple-teaming her,” coach Yvonne Brittain said of Mosey, a sophomore. “She’s just getting better and better as the season goes on.”

Mosey’s outburst Tuesday, Brittain said, was the latest in an ongoing series of double-doubles dating back to winter break. She had 10 points and 14 rebounds in just two quarters work against Quilcene Jan. 30 and 15 points and 17 rebounds against Klahowya Jan. 28.

But equally impressive, King’s West is in position to enter the league tournament on a season-best six-game win streak. The team hosts Chief Leschi at 7 p.m. tonight before concluding the regular season against North Sound Christian at home tomorrow.

“We’re playing pretty well,” Brittain said. “All things being equal, it would be nice to go into the playoffs on a six-game win streak.”

With the SeaTac League South Division No. 2 seed sewed up, the Lady Warriors will open the league tournament against the No. 3 seed from the North Division, which currently is The Bear Creek School (8-9 overall, 6-3 league). King’s West beat Bear Creek 50-25 Jan. 14.

“We handled them pretty effectively last time we played,” Brittain said.

The league tournament begins Feb. 14 at Chief Leschi High School in Puyallup.
