After nearly winning at the last second, Klahowya’s Andre Moore lifted the team to a 65-61 overtime win against Sequim on Tuesday in the Olympic League opener for both schools.
Moore, who led the Eagles with 22 points, scored four of the Eagles’ six points in the extra frame.
Several Eagles had big games alongside more, including Caleb Leavitt (18 points) and Chris Zumdieck (13 points).
Nic Thacker of Sequim led all scorers in the game with a 28-point effort in the back-and-forth contest.
The win makes Klahowya 3-1 overall. The Eagles travel to Poulsbo today at 1:30 p.m. to try to recreate last year’s then-upset victory of North Kitsap.
Central Kitsap both won big on Wednesday, with the Cougar boys trumping Stadium 62-39 to remain undefeated while the CK girls got their first Narrows League Bay Division win of the season, 70-34 against the Tigers.
In the boys game, CK (6-0, 3-0) jumped out to a 26-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 37-15 at the half. Philip Thomas led a balanced effort with 15 points while Brandon Durham had 10 points and five boards. Drew Shearer had nine and Caleb Brown chipped in 8 for CK.
For the girls it was a similar story, as the Cougs (2-3, 1-2) opened the game up with a 27-5 lead after one quarter. The CK girls led 41-18 at the half of their contest.
Katie Lintz continued to merge offensively for CK with a game-high 25 points. Nolan Winger added 9 for CK.
CK’s boys host Shelton at 7 p.m. tonight in a non-leaguer.
As for the Trojans, Olympic’s boys lost a tough one, 68-61, despite leading for three quarters.
The Trojans (1-2, 1-1) opened the game with a 17-10 first-quarter lead that became a 49-47. Oly led through three quarters. But a 21-12 fourth for PA carried the Roughriders.
Larry Dixon and Rashad Greene led Oly with 16 points each.
The Trojan girls topped the Roughriders for their first win of the season, however, with a 65-41 victory Tuesday. Oly led 36-17 at the half in the win.
Sammy Viray continued to play well, scoring 15 points while Shawntell Bradford added 11 for the Trojans (1-3, 1-1).
Girls bowling
The bowling Trojans just keep on rolling.
Olympic’s girls bowling team dominated against North Mason on Tuesday led by a sensational effort by Liza Ambrose.
Ambrose fueled the Trojans’ 7-0 win with games of 227 and 219 for a 446 high series.
Boys swimming
Central Kitsap’s Seth Parker qualified for state in two more events on Tuesday, swimming a 2-minute, 2.95-second 200-yard individual medley followed by a 1:00.75 in the 100 breast as the Cougars fell in a close 93-77 meet to Narrows League rivals Olympia.
