Kingston girls lose to Enumclaw

Kingston’s dynamic duo of seniors Eilee Brockman and Brianna Jorgensen helped the Bucs overcome a 13-3 deficit at the start of the game to take a 36-30 lead midway through the third quarter.

But when Brockman went out because of foul trouble Enumclaw took advantage and went on to a 69-55 victory Saturday in the 2A playoffs.

No. 10 seed Kingston had problems early dealing with a full-court press, which led to turnovers and steals. But once the Bucs figured that out they chipped away at the lead.

Brockman scored and hit a free throw, Jorgensen scored off the fastbreak and sophomore Jayla Moon hit a 3. When Jorgensen scored inside late the Bucs trailed just 20-14 at the end of a high-scoring first period.

No. 4 seed Enumclaw’s shooting cooled off in the second period, and the Bucs took advantage. Jorgensen and Brockman had success not only driving to the hoop, but also dishing it back outside for shots. The Hornets stayed close by grabbing offensive boards after missed 3-point shots.

Grace Epperson hit a 3, Moon hit another one and Kylie Sandstrom scored after grabbing an offensive rebound. Jorgensen scored off a drive and when Brockman hit a bucket off the fastbreak Kingston had its first lead of the game at 26-25. Jorgensen drove to the hoop again to put Kingston up 28-27 at intermission.

Brockman scored on two drives to the bucket, and then again on a nice pass from Jorgensen on the fastbreak to put the Bucs up 36-30 with about five minutes left in the third.

But with Brockman out Enumclaw started scoring inside, and their 3-pointers again started to drop to easily take the win.

No. 1 seed Port Angeles won the tourney with a 61-33 win over No. 2 seed White River. No.5 Sequim was third with a 32-27 win over No. 3 Sammamish.

To reach that game, Kingston beat No. 8 Franklin Pierce, and trounced No. 16 seed Highline 76-19.
