Kingston’s girls volleyball team defeated the Bremerton Knights 3-0 Oct. 20.
Although the scores were very similar, winning 25-14, 25-14, 25-15, the Buccaneers had to change their game plan against the Knights each set.
The Knights took an early 3-1 lead before the match was tied at 10-10. Senior Kayla Baker began to become the focal point of Kingston’s offense, rallying the Buccaneers on a 9-0 run before Bremerton’s assistant coach Amber Plummer called timeout.
After that short break, Baker continued to dominate the right side of Bremerton’s defense, firing shots down the middle and down the line. Bremerton’s Nevaeh Promise Bell helped spark a few points for the Knights before Kingston captured the victory.
Kingston kept the momentum rolling in the second set as it began attacking down the middle and left side of Bremerton’s defense. Senior Grace Mosco stepped up as a key offensive weapon in the second set, earning points from the back line and around the net.
In addition, Kingston’s middle blockers earned a few blocks to give the Buccaneers an 11-4 lead. The Knights looked to respond as Lagituaiva Hale proved to be one of the most dominant players on the court. The Knights’ outside hitter helped set up the offense, pick up blocks, and earn kills.
However, Kingston’s offensive unit outlasted Hale and the Knights in the second set.
Bremerton came at Kingston strong in the third set, as the Knights stood toe-to-toe with Kingston, trailing just 9-8.
But senior Malak Salem became a wrecking force in the middle of the net, earning points through kills and blocks. Within minutes, Kingston took over the match and won easily 25-15.
