KHS athletes, debaters compete in post-season

Kingston High School qualified seven athletes for State in their respective sports while debaters sent six to represent the school in statewide competitions.

Kingston High School’s winter athletes had a great weekend at their state qualifying competitions as seven of them qualified for State in their respective sports.

Dana VanWyck qualified for the state gymnastics meet on the floor exercise, vault, and uneven bars. She will compete at the state meet at the Tacoma Dome on February 20-21. Good luck Dana!

The Kingston High School boys swim 400 freestyle relay team comprised of Kameron Ashley, Andrew Hanson, Shane Hawthorne, and Adam Kerstein qualified for state at this past weekend’s district meet in Renton. They also swam at the state meet held on Feb. 19 ‒ 21 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. Congratulations boys!

Kingston High School qualified three wrestlers for the Mat Classic state tournament at the Tacoma Dome on Feb. 20 ‒ 21. Alex Lambert (first place at 119 lbs.), Travis Schriner (third place at 189 lbs.) and Kiana Witt (first place at 112 lbs.) finished in the top three at the regional tournament to earn the right to wrestle at state.

Six members of the debate team will be going to the National Qualifying tournament March 5 ‒ 9 in Federal Way, and three will represent Kingston at the State Tournament on March 14 and 21, according to KHS Debate Advisor Deborah MacKinnon.

Mitch Murdock is a junior who will be representing KHS at state in extemporaneous speaking, impromptu and Lincoln-Douglas debate. Senior Ry Ravenholt will compete in impromptu and student congress. The first girl to represent KHS at state is Jessica Jorgenson who will compete in student congress.

Kingston earned enough berths in the national qualifying tournament for Spencer Stegman, Dana Beckett and Jack Murdock to attend as well.
