t Kingston forfeits put Klahowya in 2A baseball driver’s seat.
These Eagles’ wings may be just what Klahowya needed.
Getting complete-game efforts out of Eric Eley and Kurtis Pitcher in back-to-back games this week, combined with Kingston announcing it would have to forfeit two wins, propelled the Eagles into the top 2A spot in the Olympic League baseball standings.
In the Eagles’ 5-1 victory against Olympic on Wednesday, the Eagles and Trojans were deadlocked at 1-1 through six innings. The Eagles woke up their bats in the top of the seventh however, scoring four runs in the frame. Eley batted 1-2, scoring twice, while Seth Green went 1-4 with an RBI double. The Trojans were led by Tyler Marshall, who went 1-2 with an RBI.
Kurtis Pitcher stole the show however, pitching a complete game while walking none, recording six strike outs.
On the flip side, Riley Crow started and lasted six solid innings for the Trojans (11-2 overall, 9-1 in league play).
On Tuesday, Eley also went the distance, holding down the fort for Klahowya in a 3-1 win against then-top 2A squad Kingston. Eley struck out nine while giving up just six hits and two walks.
That win, combined with Kingston announcing it would forfeit wins against Olympic and Sequim, have propelled the Eagles ahead of Sequim and Kingston into first amongst the 2A schools at 7-6 (7-3 in league play). Kingston had to forfeit the wins after self-reporting a player’s expired physical. That dropped Kingston from 9-4 overall and 7-3 in league to 7-6 and 5-5.
Klahowya, still busy thanks to weather-canceled games, turned around and beat Bremerton 6-4 Thursday, with Eley and Stephen Jeffcoat both homering.
Softball
Both Olympic and Klahowya got big softball wins Thursday, with the Trojans (5-5, 5-4) blanking Peninsula 12-0 behind Kelsey Strickland’s two-hitter. Catcher Athena Rosario led the Trojans at the plate, batting 2-3.
Klahowya also 10-runned Bremerton, winning 13-3 at home Thursday. Kim Houde had a 2-2 effort that included three RBI.
Shelby Marsh-Quinlan hit a two-run double and starter Kazandra Holliday also drove a run in. Breanna Stanley got the win for Klahowya in relief.
Not to be outdone, Central Kitsap walloped Foss 11-2 Thursday at home. Julie Fergus went 3-3 for CK, while Naomi Stocks was 3-4 with three RBI for the Cougars (8-3, 7-2).
Boys soccer
Central Kitsap scored a nice Narrows win Thursday, topping Gig Harbor 3-2 with a 79th-minute goal from Ryan Hough, one of two scores and an assist for him.
