The Olympic College baseball team improved to 13-20 on the season with its first four Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges wins coming last Saturday and Sunday against Douglas College (New Westminster, British Columbia).

After sweeping Douglas at home with 3-1 and 7-4 wins, the Rangers (4-8 in NWAACC North Division play) headed north to earn a 9-8 victory. Douglas forfeited the second game of the double header.

In Sunday’s 9-8 win, Alex McKinlay batted 2-4, scoring twice and driving two in. Jared Munson was 3-4 with a run, as was Danny Hennigs, who also added two RBI. Nick Mareno went 2-3 with two runs and an RBI, including a double.

The team has already improved by 11 games after going 2-46 last season. OC next battles Shoreline for a double header beginning at 1 p.m. today on the road.

Baseball notes

Kitsap BlueJacket and Green River Community College first baseman Ryan Voelkel currently leads the NWAACC with seven home runs. Voelkel is third in the NWAACC with 25 RBI.

Softball

The OC Lady Rangers swept Peninsula College with 7-5 and 2-0 wins Thursday in Port Angeles.

OC moved into second place in the NWAACC North Division with the wins, now at 12-6 on the season both overall and in league play. Bellevue remains in first with a 20-2 record, undefeated at 16-0 in league play.

In the opening 7-5 10-inning win, CK grad Karli Baumgartner went 3-6 while Carolyn Edenbo was 3-5 with two RBI.

In the 2-0 shutout, fellow CK grad Erkia Quint pitched a shutout with catcher Amy Renfrow batting 2-3.
