Davies reaches 1,000 career points in NK season opener

Harry Davies entered the season nine points shy of 1,000 career points at North Kitsap. Although the Vikings dominated the Olympic Trojans 88-20, Davies stole the show when he reached 1,000 points.

“It feels great,” Davies said. “It’s a lot of hard work but the people surrounding me made it easy. I got the best point guard in the state, the best teammates and coach.”

Davies ended the night with 24 points, tallying up to 1,015 points in two seasons at North Kitsap.

“He is one of the best scorers I have ever had,” head coach Scott Orness said. “Besides a dunk, I don’t know if he missed a shot tonight.”

Davies scored from all over the court, nailing three-pointers, dunking over defenders and scoring the most important point at the free-throw line. Besides Davies performance, the Vikings showcased some flashy skills and terrific defense against the Trojans.

“Our team put a big emphasis on defense this year,” Davies said. “We know our offense has the pieces and we have the experience but the defense is all effort.”

Orness said, “We had great energy on defense, offense and on the bench. We played at a whole different speed compared to teams in the past.”

Olympic’s Donovan Weaver scored five points for the Trojans in the first quarter to make it 36-5. In addition, Jordan Williams made his North Kitsap debut and impressed Orness within the first half.

“Jordan has another speed to him that we haven’t had,” Orness said. “He comes from a program at Curtis where their defense has led them to two state titles and he brings that level of intensity to us this year.”

Williams left the game early with a leg injury but scored six points in the first quarter. The Vikings continued to showcase its skills in the second quarter, taking a 66-10 lead at halftime. North Kitsap began to rest its starting players a few minutes after the third quarter began. Cade Orness also ended the night with 24 points and a handful of assists. Although North Kitsap dominated the first game of the season, improvements can still be made.

“We need to crash the glass,” Davies said. “We have to work on that as a unit. But, we are coming for everybody. It doesn’t matter if it’s our league or not, we are coming.”
