A recap of what was a busy weekend in sports for Central Kitsap, Klahowya and Olympic:
Central Kitsap
The Central Kitsap baseball team came from three runs down in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge Kentwood 6-5 at Lobe Field at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds Saturday.
Cole Adams, who was 2-for-3 with one RBI, knocked in the winning run to cap a four-run ninth that saw the Cougars (8-4) erase a 5-2 deficit.
“It was a great win against a very good team,” CK coach Bill Baxter said. “It was really exciting, had everything — good hitting, great pitching, some awesome defensive plays.”
With the win, it appears as though CK is back on track after last week’s 4-1 loss against Narrows League power Olympia. Baxter said he challenged his team to respond from that loss with a solid effort against Kentwood (8-2), which entered the game ranked No. 10 in the Seattle Times state baseball rankings.
“It will give us a ton of confidence headed into this week,” Baxter said. “We know if we play together, we can play with anyone … I was very proud of their effort and their approach to the game.”
Casey Bohlmann, a senior, was 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI for the Cougars, who host Shelton at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
In track and field action, CK junior Shane Moskowitz swept the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races at the Pasco Invitational, the state’s largest regular-season meet.
Moskowitz, who established himself as one of the state’s premier distance runners with a second-place individual finish at the 2008 Class 4A state cross-country championships, won the 1,600 in 4 minutes, 16.60 seconds and the 3,200 in 9:13.05, the state’s fastest time up to this point in the season. His sister, Shannon, took second in the 800 (2:19.89).
The Cougars took fourth in the boys team standings with 32 points, finishing behind winner Kentwood (62), second-place Mead (57.5) and third-place North Central (44). The girls finished sixth overall with 22 points, with Jesuit of Oregon (54) taking the crown.
Klahowya
After beating winless Bremerton 11-2 Friday, the Eagle baseball team lost to Cascade Christian in non-league contest Saturday, 6-3.
The teams exchanged one-run innings in the first, second and third, but Cascade broke the 3-3 tie with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Brandon Neet, who scored two runs, picked up the loss.
KSS (8-3) face North Kitsap on the road at 4 p.m. today.
With 15 points, the Lady Eagle tennis team took seventh at the South Kitsap Invite, which host school SK won with 36 points.
No. 1 singles player Tracy Landram dropped her first match of the season, losing in the championship match to SK’s Rae Cockreham 6-4, 6-0.
The team visits North Mason at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
In track and field action, KSS sophomore Rebecca Lindgren took first in the girls 100-meter dash at Saturday’s South Kitsap Invitational at South Kitsap High School with a time of 12.87 seconds. She also took third in the 200 (26.59) and second in the 400 (1:00.56).
The Lady Eagles tied Foss for 12th in the girls team standings with 25 points, finishing well behind winner SK (94). Federal Way won the boys team title with 136 points.
Olympic
The Trojan track and field team also competed at the South Kitsap Invitational, with the boys earning fourth place and the girls 16th.
Kyle King took third in the 100 in 11.36 and Darrious Walker took second in the 200 in 23.11, and the duo joined Larry Dixon and James Galam to capture the 4X100 relay in 44.42.
Dixon also placed fourth in the shot put with a 48-foot-1-inch throw in the finals.
With 61 points, the Oly boys finished behind just three teams and ahead of 12.
On the diamond, the Trojans lost against North Kitsap in extra innings Friday, 6-5. Oly erased a 4-1 fourth-inning deficit to take a 5-4 lead, but North pushed two runs across in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win.
Riley Crow, who started on the mound, was 2-for-4. The Trojans (8-5 overall, 7-3 league), who were without Blake Johnson due to a one-game suspension stemming from an April 15 game against Bremerton, visit Klahowya at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
