Senior Jarell Flora woke up Tuesday wondering if that night’s game would be he last as a student at Bremerton High School.

He went to bed bound for the Class 3A state tournament next weekend — and Seattle University next year.

The do-it-all basketball star has verbally committed to the Redhawks of Seattle University, coached by Cameron Dollar. He received a full-ride scholarship offer this week.

Flora learned of the news during the middle of his economic class, which Lindberg teaches. Dollar called and asked to speak with Flora.

“He offered me a scholarship and said, ‘Welcome to the family,'” Flora said.

Now Flora is the first Division I basketball player to come out of Bremerton since Marvin Williams, who played a season at the University of North Carolina in 2004-05 before going pro.

Dollar scouted Flora during Bremerton’s district game last week against Lakes High School after Lindberg recommended Dollar come watch. Soon, the coaches were exchanging text messages about bringing Flora to Seattle.

“This is going to change his life,” Lindberg said Tuesday following the Knights’ 76-72 victory over Evergreen High School. “He is going to a great program. Cameron is building something great over there.”

Flora said he isn’t sure what he will study, but he is leaning toward business.

On the court, the 6-foot-2-inch Flora said Dollar most likely will use him as a shooting guard.

“I’m just looking forward to the competition,” said Flora, who will sign in April when the second of two signing periods begin.

The Redhawks are 16-14 and conclude the regular season Saturday against Utah Valley.
