Stefan Arni Scheving died Aug. 4, 2006, in Bremerton after a fight with lung cancer. The Bremerton resident was 82.
Mr. Scheving worked for nearly 40 years as a service engineer and manager for Pitney-Bowles Office Equipment before he retired in 1988. A U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II, he then spent five years as an outside salesman for Ballard Hardware and Supplies.
Mr. Scheving was born June 21, 1924 in Hensel, N.D. to Stefan and Anna (Johnson) Scheving. He graduated from Ballard High School in Seattle in 1943 and attended the University of Washington. He married his wife, Nancy Mae (Warren) Scheving, of 56 years on July 12, 1950.
He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, sang in a number of choruses and barbershop groups and was active in the Kitsap County Pool League, the Pitney-Bowles Oval Club and the Hudson-Packard Club. Among his interests were shooting pool, wood carving, bowling, leading Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, repairing and restoring old cars, camping, singing and visiting Iceland where he could speak Icelandic.
Mr. Scheving is survived by: his wife of the family home; sons Johann (Cherly) Scheving of Maple Valley, Stefan (Deann) Scheving of Mountlake Terrace and Ralph (Lisa) Scheving of Bremerton; daughter Nancy (Gary) Absalonson of Spokane; grandchildren Joshua, John, Stefan, David, Christa, Dan, Kenny, Pat, Annie, Sam and Jenny; great-grandchildren Rayne and Stefan; sister Anna (James) Freyberg of Seattle; in-law Ruby Brown of Bremerton; cousin Arni Scheving of Seattle; and friends Ed Bird of Poulsbo and Bodie and Theresa Veil of Bremerton. He was preceded in death by his sisters Margaret Hartje and Sigrid Langrell.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bremerton. Burial is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
