Robert L. Byrd, 88

Poulsbo resident Robert L. Byrd died Sept. 17, 2006. He was 88.

Byrd was born in Douglas, Wyo. on Oct. 23, 1917.

He married Alta Turpin on Dec. 20, 1947 in Cornelia, Ga.

Byrd served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945.

He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting with his dogs, gardening and University of Tennessee football.

Byrd is survived by his son Gary (Karen) Byrd; daughter Buris (David) Blanchfield; sisters Faye Sheffield and Eleanor Sutton; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Byrd was preceded in death by his brothers BC Byrd and Paul Byrd; his sisters Della Thomas, Beatrice Gibson and Greer Corns and his wife Alta Turpin.

No formal services will be held.
