Edwin H. Snyder, 83

Former Poulsbo resident Edwin Hamilton Snyder died Sept. 18, 2006 in Kenmore. He was 83.

Snyder was born to Edwin H. and Josephine Connell Snyder in Great Falls, Mont. on Nov. 7, 1922.

He married Doris Jane Hough on Feb. 2, 1946 in Norfolk, Va.

Snyder graduated from Queen Anne High School in Seattle in 1940.

He owned a machine shop business on Eastlake in Seattle from 1948 to 1952 before working with his father in an oil burner business in Seattle. He then spent 25 years as a planner and estimator at the Keyport Naval Torpedo Station before retiring in 1983.

Snyder was a Navy fighter pilot on the USS Lexington aircraft carrier in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He served in the reserves from 1945 to 1965, attaining the rank of lieutenant commander.

He enjoyed painting, camping, fishing and traveling. He was also a camera buff and played the harmonica.

Snyder is survived by daughters Barbara Elaine (Stafford L.) Smith of Kenmore and Joanne (Louise) Hall of San Jose, Calif.; brother John (Diane) Snyder of Edmonds; sisters Virginia (Max) Holt and Elden Mayer of Lake Cavenaugh; five grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; 10 great-grandchildren and two step-great- grandchildren.

Snyder was preceded in death by his wife Doris Snyder.

A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Edmonds Conference Center.
