Marjorie A. Schmuck, 85

Poulsbo resident Marjorie Adabell Schmuck died Dec. 3, 2005 in Poulsbo. She was 85.

She was born to Lee and Margaret (Hamilton) Hubbell in Marysville, Calif. on Nov. 28, 1920.

Schmuck married Melvin C. Schmuck on June 12, 1943 at the Suquamish Congregational Church in Suquamish.

She graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1939.

Schmuck worked in the payroll office at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard during the war years. She established one of the first artist’s co-ops in Poulsbo, named the “Stabbur.”

She painted Christmas scenes on the windows in downtown Poulsbo from 1960 to the early 1990s. She also painted commercial signs, including on buildings, boats and cars, as “Marge’s Signs.”

She was a member of the League of Women Voters, the Poulsbo Yacht Club since 1975 and helped establish the North Kitsap Arts & Crafts Festival.

Schmuck enjoyed boating, gardening, sewing, entertaining family and friends, annual high school reunions and nurturing long-lasting personal friendships.

She is survived by her husband Melvin C. Schmuck of Poulsbo; sons Michael Schmuck of Greenwater, Rodger (Laure) Schmuck of Poulsbo and David Schmuck of Kingston; daughter Patricia (Tom) Henderson of Poulsbo; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sisters Virdelle Chase and Lois Etue, brothers Wendell and Glen Hubbell and her parents Lee and Margaret Hubbell.

A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Suquamish Community Congregational Church, 18732 Division Ave. NE in Suquamish.

Memorial donations may be sent to a charity of the donor’s choice.
