Gustav A. Stenbom, 84

Gustav “Gus” A. Stenbom died May l7, 2006 in Mesa, Ariz.

He was 84.

He was born in Tacoma in l922 to Sigrid and Alfred Stenbom. He spent his early years in Tacoma and Olympia and was in the C.C.C.’s before he joined the Navy in l942.

In 1951, he married Carol Lee Brown in Olympia and spent the next 13 years with his wife and son traveling the United States and abroad as a member of the U.S. Navy.

He retired from the military in l964, and following the birth of his daughters they moved to Poulsbo where he worked in Civil Service at Keyport Naval Undersea Warfare Station. After his retirement from Keyport in l983, he and his wife enjoyed the snowbird life traveling back and forth between Washington and Arizona until they made a permanent home in the Mesa, Ariz. area.

He enjoyed playing card games, camping, woodworking, oil painting, great coffee, spending time with his family and playing games with his granddaughter.

Stenbom is survived by his wife Carol of Mesa, Ariz.; son Steven (Ann) Stenbom of Kingston; daughters Kathy (John) Leigh-Godfrey of Mesa, Ariz., and Christine (Paul) Richardson of Silverdale; sister Florence (Ray) Dinsmore of Olympia; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Sigrid and Alfred; and his sister Gertrude. A private memorial will be held in June in Mesa, Ariz. Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society.
