Douglas T. Wahto, 85

Douglas T. Wahto died Aug. 19, 2006 in Juneau, Alaska. He was 85.

Wahto graduated from Douglas High School, Alaska in 1938.

He worked as a commercial fisherman and Alaska Territorial and State Legislature Sgt-At-Arms.

Wahto served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 in the European Campaign. He was wounded three times, earning several medals, including Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

He enjoyed working with the Pioneers of Alaska, VFW, Northwest Special Forces Association, Anzio Beachhead Veterans of World War II and is a former member of the Kingston Cove Yacht Club.

Wahto is survived by his sons Douglas Wahto of Juneau, Alaska, and Dennis Wahto of Juneau, Alaska; his daughters Janice Kutz of Kingston, Jean Smith of Juneau, Alaska, Joan Atkinson of Juneau, Alaska, and Julie Wahto of Juneau, Alaska; his brother Gordon Wahto of Anchorage, Alaska; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Aug. 26, 2006 in Juneau. On Oct. 13 a full military burial by the First Special Forces will be held at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent.
