POULSBO — The Kitsap County Association of Realtors hosts a forum noon Sept. 7 featuring candidates for superintendent of Public Instruction.

The candidates are state Rep. Chris Reykdal and Deputy Superintendent Erin Jones.

Candidate forums scheduled across the water
SEATTLE — Take a ferry and get to meet candidates for state treasurer, auditor and secretary of state.

The League of Women Voters of Seattle-King County and the League of Women Voters of Washington is co-hosting two public forums in which candidates for statewide office discuss the issues of their campaigns.

At both forums, candidates will answer questions posed by a neutral moderator and from the audience.  Both forums will take place at the Seattle First Baptist Church, 1111 Harvard Avenue, Seattle.

7 p.m. Sept. 8: Candidates for State Treasurer, Duane Davidson and Michael Waite, and candidates for State Auditor, Mark Miloscia and Pat McCarthy.

7 p.m. Sept. 12: Candidates for Secretary of State Tina Podlodowski and incumbent Kim Wyman.

Both forums are open to the public and will be televised by TVW and shown within two days at the TVW web site, www.TVW.org.

The State Treasurer is responsible for management of the more than $400 billion cash flow of all major state accounts with deposits, withdrawals and transfers; investment of operating cash in short-term accounts that preserve access to the funds while bearing interest; and management of the state’s bond debt. The treasurer also advises other government agencies in long-term debt and investments they may make.

The State Auditor is responsible for analyzing the financial and other performance indicators of state and local governments, evaluating and reporting on their use of public resources.

The Secretary of State is responsible for a variety of functions, of which a preeminent element is assurance of fair elections, including publication of the state voters’ pamphlet.  The Secretary of State also registers and licenses corporations, limited partnerships and trademarks; registers those involved in charitable solicitations; and collects and preserves the historical records of the state.


Social justice groups forum on Sept. 10
PORT ORCHARD — The Kitsap County Council for Human Rights will host a “Social Justice Meet & Greet” from 9:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 10 at The Eagle’s Nest at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, 1195 NW Fairgrounds Road, Bremerton.

Social justice organizations from throughout Kitsap County will join in conversations and share information with the community about the work they do, upcoming events and resources available. The event is free and open to the public.
