POULSBO — What’s the wind speed in Bremerton? What’s the rainfall in Poulsbo? Where’s the center of the latest storm?

You can track all of that and more in real time with Ventusky’s real-time weather data map.

It could come in handy as the weekend storm approaches.

“I highly recommend this,” Marylin Olds of Kingston emailed. “It’s great fun to watch what’s up with temperature and wind around you, especially for this weekend’s storms. Makes a great screen saver as well.”

Popular Mechanics wrote of the site on Oct. 3: “Ventusky works a lot like Google Maps or your mapping software of choice. You can drag the map around and zoom in and out, or use the search bar to pull up any particular place on the planet Earth you’re curious about.

“The map shows the range of global temperatures in a rainbow array, with enchanting moving arrows revealing the wind direction and patterns everywhere. Other overlays show you precipitation, cloud cover, and air press around the world, and you can customize what you’re seeing however you like. You can even go backward in time to see past weather patterns or forward to see predictions. Really, though, it’s just fun to stare at the planet revealed in such dynamic detail.”
