State’s first hybrid ER, urgent care facility to open in Bremerton

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health will open the state’s first hybrid emergency room and urgent care facility in Bremerton March 4.

The facility, located at 4207 Kitsap Way, will be open 24/7 and fully equipped like a traditional ER, with on-site lab equipment, X-ray, and a multi-slice CT scanner. Patients will be triaged by emergency-trained physicians and nurses, and emergency medical services can transport patients directly to the facility.

The hybrid model aims to help patients avoid the uncertainty of deciding whether to go to an urgent care center or an emergency room, ensuring they receive the appropriate level of care at the right cost. The facility is designed to take pressure off nearby emergency rooms, such as St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale, which sees over 120,000 patients annually.

“We’re excited to offer a more efficient and accessible healthcare option for the Kitsap Peninsula community,” said Ketul J. Patel, CEO of VMFH. “This new model improves care delivery, reduces wait times, and ensures people get the care they need when they need it.”

VMFH is also building a second hybrid location in Port Orchard, which is expected to open later this year. In addition, St. Michael Medical Center is expanding with a new tower that will add 74 beds by the end of the year.
