Bank donates

Kitsap Bank recently presented over $18,000 in donations to 10 local food banks.

These donations are just a portion of the commitments made to local food banks by Kitsap Bank this year. During September and October, the bank hosted 10 “From Shred to Fed” events.

The public was invited to bring outdated or sensitive documents to various Kitsap Bank branches for destruction, while making a donation to the local food bank.

Combined with the bank’s corporate donations, Kitsap Bank generated more than $35,000 in 2022 for food banks in Kitsap, Jefferson, Clallam and Pierce counties.

Kitsap nonprofits that benefitted from the third annual “From Shred to Fed” events were: Bremerton Foodline; Central Kitsap Food Bank; Fish Food Bank; Helpline House; North Kitsap Fishline; and South Kitsap Helpline.

Acting director

At a special meeting of the Emergency Management Council Oct. 20, Jan Glarum was appointed acting director.

Glarum came to KCDEM three years ago. He has previously held positions with FEMA, state and local emergency management agencies.

His priorities are:

• Develop public awareness of disaster hazards and promote self-sufficiency after disaster strikes.

• Develop responder capabilities.

• Have reasonable procedures for emergencies and disasters.

• Create an atmosphere of interagency cooperation in emergency and disaster operations.

“Facing emergencies before they happen takes time, money, and resources that can be difficult to justify when everything seems fine. However, recent events have shown that planning and preparation have a place in making Kitsap County a resilient community. We hope you will join us in making the next emergency a better one.”
