SKSD facility planning committee seeks community input

District seeking views on improving SKSD facilities in the years to come

PORT ORCHARD — South Kitsap School District’s Facility Planning Committee is asking for input from the community as they start to develop capital improvement scenarios for voter consideration.

The committee has been working over the last year to analyze the condition and educational adequacy of South Kitsap facilities, school officials said Monday.

The question the committee is asking the community to comment on is: What are some important areas to consider as we plan for the improvement of South Kitsap School District facilities in the years to come?

District officials said they are using Thoughtexchange, a nontraditional survey tool to gather feedback. Users share their ideas in the first step and then they get to see and prioritize what others say. Accordingly, themes and common threads emerge from the results, they said.

“Thoughtexchange is an innovative tool that discovers common theme areas around a topic or question,” said Amy Miller, district public information officer. “The Facility Committee wants to hear from as many voices as possible. The next step following this exchange will be an opportunity for the community to provide input on draft scenarios.”

SKSD has used Thoughtexchange in the past to gather feedback around school safety, school year planning, boundary revisions and overall district satisfaction, Miller said.
