With the roof raised over the Haselwood Family YMCA in Silverdale New Year’s Eve, the facility is expected to open July 1, said spokeswoman Michelle LaRue Wednesday. Windows are scheduled to be placed in the building next week with flooring to go in soon after. In about three weeks, construction for the pool will begin.

Construction on the 85,000-square-foot, $22 million facility began in May of 2010 as part of the Silverdale Community Campus. Because of the failed Kitsap Regional Library levy in the November election, there will be no new library included with the campus.

About $10.4 million has been raised of the $12 million capital campaign goal for the YMCA, LaRue said. As of Wednesday, there were 3,500 members signed up for the facility. In 2010, the joining fee was waived. Now through opening day, the cost to become a member is $25 per adult. Once the facility opens, the cost will be $100 to join. Through market research studies, LaRue said the Haselwood Family YMCA could accommodate 15,000 members.
