Senate Indian Affairs Committee chairman visits Suquamish on Oct. 13

Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, is scheduled to visit several Suquamish Tribe educational and commercial facilities on Oct. 13.

SUQUAMISH — Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, is scheduled to visit several Suquamish Tribe educational and commercial facilities on Oct. 13.

Suquamish Tribe spokeswoman April Leigh said Tester will meet with Tribal leaders and tour the Suquamish Museum, the Marion Forsman-Boushie Early Learning Center, Chief Kitsap Academy and the site of the new Suquamish Seafoods plant, currently under construction.

This is Tester’s first visit to Tribal communities in Washington since assuming chairmanship of the committee earlier this year, Leigh reported.

Tester will also visit the Skokomish Tribe, the Nisqually Tribe and the Puyallup Tribe. He will meet with Tribal Councils, tour educational and healthcare facilities, as well as other areas of interest to the Tribes.

The Suquamish Museum is located in Suquamish Village, near the administration offices. Chief Kitsap Academy and the Suquamish Seafoods construction site are located at 15838 Sandy Hook Road NE.
