KINGSTON — A 48-year-old Kingston man died after the scooter he was driving, and a North Kitsap Fire & Rescue fire engine, collided in the intersection of Miller Bay Road and West Kingston Road, July 4.
The driver of the 2006 Yamaha scooter was identified as Jason T. Foster.
The firefighter driving the engine has been with the department for two years. The passenger firefighter has been with the department for 15 years. The firefighters were not injured. The crew of the engine involved has been placed off duty, according to information from North Kitsap Fire & Rescue.
The crash was reported at 11:02 a.m.
Foster was traveling north on Miller Bay Road, according to a preliminary report from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office. The fire engine, driven by a 36-year-old firefighter was traveling southbound on Miller Bay Road.
The fire engine slowed in the intersection, in order to make a left turn onto West Kingston Road. The scooter and engine collided in the middle of the intersection, according to the report.
The scooter collided into the front left of the fire engine. Foster died at the scene.
The intersection and nearby portions of Miller Bay and West Kingston roads were closed until about 5 p.m.
Traffic investigators from the sheriff’s office continue with the investigation into the collision.
The county’s forensic pathologist will conduct an autopsy of Foster. The county coroner will make a determination as to the cause and manner of death.
