Annual fundraiser for Helpline, Fathoms set for Saturday.

The voting is over, and no matter who you were rooting for, the Port Orchard Party will be the perfect place to celebrate — or drown your sorrows.

“It will be a nice timeout,” said longtime organizer Jessie Turner, adding that the party could also help people get their minds off the country’s economic malaise.

“A large turnout will certainly help (South Kitsap) Helpline, which desperately needs donations,” Turner said. “And at Fathoms, we depend on the community, as well.”

The party, which turns 19 this year, is a fundraiser for South Kitsap Helpline, Fathoms o’Fun, and the local Boys and Girls Club.

“We are hoping to have 400 to 500 people,” Turner said, explaining that she could not give an estimate of how many tickets were sold so far, but she could give people a new way to buy them — online.

“If you do that, they are only $35,” she said, adding that the tickets can be bought through PayPal at www.portorchardparty.com. Of course, tickets can also be bought at the door, but at that time they will be $40.

This year’s theme is “Roll Out the Red Carpet,” and Turner said the city’s Man and Woman of the Year will get “Port Orchard stars” along the entrance’s red carpet, as a nod to Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.

A professional Marilyn Monroe impersonator has been hired for the event, and attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite movie star, with prizes given for the best costume.

Food will be provided by 20 restaurants, and “dancing” music will be played by InHouse downstairs, and the Mike Nelson trio will provide jazz music upstairs.

Another change this year will be the silent auction, which Turner said will replace the raffle.

“It will be nicer for our guests,” she said. “They can take their time deciding what they want to bid on, and how much.”

The items this year include six months of storage space, boat trips, and “baskets galore — all sorts of things.”

The group still needs volunteers to help set-up and design, particularly on Saturday morning.
